WHEN Lymington captain Simon Beetham called upon unknown entity Malcolm Lake to open the batting last weekend, he could not have hoped for a better outcome.
Not only did the former Zimbabwe U19 star hit an unbeaten 171 on debut, he then picked up three wickets for just nine runs as the visitors cruised to a 147-run win over New Milton. But Beetham revealed that Lake’s superb innings, the highest score for a debutant in the history of the Southern Premier Cricket League, did not get off to the perfect start.
