Don’t blame our county system for Ashes defeat

COUNTY cricket has had its knockers since England’s 4-0 humbling in the Ashes.
A dearth of pace bowlers available to Joe Root and the inability of batsmen to occupy the crease for long periods were identified as just two of the symptoms of a system that has once again come in for fierce criticism in the wake of another Ashes pounding Down Under.
England’s success in the one-day series has raised the spirits. But, so far at least, it hasn’t been greeted with people queuing up to eat their words and pay tribute to the county game and the role it has played...
