Oakman, last Laker Test hero, dies at 88

ALAN Oakman, the last surviving England player from Laker’s Match, the 1956 Ashes Test At Old Trafford, has died aged 88 in hospital in Birmingham after a lengthy illness.
Although Oakman played in only two Tests – the Old Trafford match was his last – he contributed to Laker’s 19-wicket match haul by taking five catches in the match off the Surrey off-spinner.
At county level, Oakman was an outstanding allrounder in a long career with Sussex. He joined his native county from the Grenadier Guards...
