SEVENTY years ago tomorrow, a significant event occurred in cricket history: Fred Trueman, the legendary Yorkshire and England fast bowler, made his first class debut for the county at Fenner’s against Cambridge University.
As the raw 18 year old from the mining town of Maltby near Rotherham raced in to bowl, who could have predicted that Trueman would eventually in 1964 become the first bowler in the history of the game to take 300 Test wickets?
