FORMER Leicestershire star Jacques du Toit was the hero for Burnopfield as they avoided relegation from the North East Premier League on the final day of the season.
Du Toit, 41, hit a superb 69 from just 67 balls as Burnopfield defeated Chester-le-Street by one wicket in a thrilling contest to ensure their survival.
Club chairperson David Sweeney said that Du Toit was brought into the club to add experience, a decision that ultimately paid off as they overturned a two-point deficit to survive.
