A few eyebrows were raised when England’s Test XI included uncapped 22-year-old Lauren Filer ahead of Issy Wong, the star of the recent Women’s Premier League. Described by Lewis as a “genuine wicket-taking threat with good pace and swing”, Filer has been on the domestic radar for a few years.
Having come through the Somerset age-groups, she’s become a mainstay at Western Storm and has represented Welsh Fire in the Hundred. She finished last summer’s Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy as Storm’s highest wicket-taker with 11 wickets and capped the year off by turning professional in October.
