It was on a tour of Sri Lanka, aged 11, where Will Gaffney’s purpose was changed forever.
After his club touring side were trounced by a village team on a coconut mat near Kandy, the boys decided to donate their bats and equipment. Their opposition had shared a single kit bag all game, padding up in the middle.
“We left all our kit behind at the end of the game and the smiles it brought really triggered something in me,” reminisced Gaffney, the inspiration and architect of Bat for a Chance.
