Pitch critics ‘may drive groundstaff out of game’

THE head of the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) has hit back at criticism of English pitches, telling TCP there is danger of a ‘disconnect’ between grounds staff and a sport evolving at a previously unimaginable pace.
Pitches in the county game came in for incessent stick last season as run scoring become an increasingly difficult.
But Geoff Webb, IOG chief executive, believes that the huge pressure facing those in charge of preparing pitches is being excerbated by a lack of understanding.
