SUMMER is transfer silly season for football, where unfounded rumours are the currency du jour, but cricket is not immune either.
AB de Villiers, right, is arguably the most destructive batsman in world cricket but so strong were the rumours he would be joining Barnes, that the Middlesex League club felt compelled to issue a statement denying the link.
It is alleged that a number of De Villiers’ old school friends represent the team and that he intended to keep match fit by playing in south-west London.
