HUNDREDS of people have signed a petition to save a 91-year-old cricket club after its local council said taxpayers should not have to pay a £23,000 subsidy to support the club.
Fans fear that Maghull Cricket Club, in Merseyside, could close as the council seeks to redraw the terms of its lease and transfer all running costs to the club. A campaign to save the club is building momentum though, with 1,184 people so far signing a petition launched by local supporter Angela Wilson.
