Red cards at the ready for umpires

YELLOW and red cards can now be dished out in the Southern Premier League after chairman Steve Vear increased player sanctions to curb an outbreak of abuse and intimidation.
Five umpires from the South Cast Panel have either quit or are planning to at the end of the season after a dramatic spike in player misconduct – including dissent at decisions.
The league now plans to double the length of player suspensions, impose monetary fines and deduct points from club. Law 42 (relating to onfield behaviour) will now be fully applied in the league to give umpires more control...
