IT’S the hope that kills you according to St Cross Symondians captain Ed Ellis after his side fell agonisingly short of the unlikeliest of comebacks. Chasing a modest 204 in the Southern Premier League clash with South Wilts, St Cross collapsed to 84-9.
Yet Ellis (62no) and No.11 Matt Haworth (55) shared a century stand to give hope, only for Haworth to be stumped by South Wilts’ Ben Draper – his record-equalling seventh victim of the innings –a mere 12 runs short.
