County Championship Division One – Lunch update

Warwickshire vs Kent

Kent piled on the runs in spectacular fashion this morning.

Wicket-keeper Ollie Robinson (134 not out) bettered Zak Cawley’s innings of 108 with 21 boundaries of his own as the visitors hit 475 runs for the loss of two wickets this morning.

Adding to their overnight score of 367-5 Robinson took on the bowling of Craig Miles punishing the Bears in fashionable style.

Only Darren Stevens (23) and Harry Podmore (6) both fell
trapped lbw as Henry Brookes and Ryan Sidebottom picked up their second wickets
in the first innings with tight bowling.

Surrey vs Essex

The Surrey bowlers took no time in swinging the pendulum back into their favour after quick wickets from Tom Curran (5-1-13-1) and Morne Morkel (4-3-8-1) reduced the visitors to 20-2 in their reply to Surrey’s 395 in successive overs.

Both Nick Browne (9) and Alastair Cook (11) fell cheaply in the early overs before Tom Westley (10 not out) and Dan Lawrence (15 not out) have settled into their innings bringing Essex to 45-2.

Surrey added only 53 more runs before the home-side were bowled out with only centurion Ryan Patel (100 not out) surviving the onslaught from the Essex attack.

Half-centuries from Ben Foakes (69) and Will Jacks (88) were
not enough despite trying to stabilise the Surrey innings.

Captain Rory Burns will urge his bowlers to restrict Ryan
ten Doeschate sides innings with some more tight bowling especially from
new-boy Liam Plunkett.

Nottinghamshire vs Somerset

Ten was the magic number for Nottinghamshire yesterday as
Somerset’s top three batsmen Markus Trescothick (10), Azhar (10) and Michael
Hildreth (10) all fell once reaching double digits.

Unfortunately this morning Somerset seemed to be focused on their
fight-back.

Resuming on 74-3 the visitors added another 100 runs with Captain Tom Abell (75 not out) and George Bartlett (80 not out) reaching half-centuries.

Somerset are currently 207-3 trailing Notts with seven wickets in hand.

Hampshire vs Yorkshire

Gary Ballance’s focused antics were brought to a sad end
with the batsman caught behind bt Lewis McManus off the bowling of Gareth Berg,
just two runs short of his 150.

Resuming on 310-3 the visitors lost two wickets before lunch
with night-watchman captain Steven Patterson (34) following Balance back to the
Pavilion.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore (41 not out) and Jack Leaning (31 not out) have steadied their innings on a cold and cloudy day in Nottingham bringing their innings to 445-5, with Hants yet to bat.
