Northants sign Matt Coles on temporary deal from Essex

Northamptonshire have snapped up Essex all-rounder Matt Coles on a one-month loan deal.

A new arrival at Chelmsford in 2018 after leaving Kent, Coles played a role for Essex in the One-Day Cup but is yet to feature in the County Championship.

Joining the set-up at the County Ground makes Coles eligible to play in their four Division Two fixtures coming up over the next month.

Coles is likely to will straight into action for Monday’s match against Durham, with Leicestershire, Sussex and Lancashire to follow.

“Essex have a strong squad with good depth, and it’s been frustrating not playing,” he 29-year-old told the Eagles website.

“I’ve been presented with a great opportunity to go to Northamptonshire on loan and hopefully during my loan spell I can get plenty of wickets and runs and get back to doing what I do best.”

Northamptonshire assistant coach Phil Rowe added: “He’s a talented all-round cricketer. He’s a player we’ve admired for a number of years, he’s a big character and brings a big personality.”
