Worcestershire cricketer Alex Hepburn raped sleeping woman, court told

A court has heard how Worcestershire all-rounder Alex Hepburn allegedly raped a woman as she slept in bed in April 2017.

The jury was told the victim was attacked shortly after she had had consensual sex with Hepburn’s teammate Joe Clarke.

The Press Association has reported how prosecutors told the jury the woman assumed she was still in bed with Clarke but when she woke up, he had left to go and be sick. It was then she noticed a sex act being performed on her and that Hepburn was in the bed.

Prosecutor Miranda Moore QC explained to the court the victim called Hepburn a ‘sick bastard’ after he had encouraged her to ‘continue having sex with him’.

The woman called a friend to tell her what had happened and then left the room. A member of the public found her crying in the street shortly afterwards and phoned the police.

Hepburn denies two counts of rape, claiming the victim was awake and that kissing had led to consensual sexual contact.

The trial at Worcester Crown Court continues.
