A slow over rate by England in their six-wicket victory over Pakistan means Eoin Morgan has been banned for the fourth ODI at Trent Bridge.
England’s captain has also been docked 40 per cent of his match fee following the match in Bristol, which saw the hosts successfully chase 359 to win.
The Middlesex batsman was previously reprimanded for the same infringement during the tour of the West Indies earlier this year.
Head coach Trevor Bayliss will now be without the on-field influence of Morgan as they head to Nottingham for Friday’s match.
“England were ruled to be two overs short after time allowances were taken into consideration,” the International Cricket Council said in a statement.
Morgan’s absence is likely to play into the hands of batsman Joe Denly as he looks to argue his case for a spot in the final draft of England’s World Cup squad. While Mark Wood has also been mentioned as a player who will get an opportunity to impress in the two remaining matches against Pakistan.
In addition to Morgan, the ICC also took action against Jonny Bairstow for hitting the stumps with his bat upon being dismissed.
The opener struck a glorious 128 in a consummate England batting display.
England hold a 2-0 lead in the series with their World Cup curtain-raiser against South Africa on 30 May looming large.
