Alex Hales takes break from cricket for ‘personal reasons’

Alex Hales

England star Alex Hales has stepped away from cricket for personal reasons with ‘no timetable’ set on his return.

With the summer’s Cricket World Cup looming, Hales was named in the preliminary squad for the tournament by national selector Ed Smith on Wednesday.

And his availability for England’s pre-tournament training camp next week and their subsequent ODI series against Ireland and Pakistan appears unclear, after he asked not to play for Nottinghamshire against Lancashire on Friday.

A statement released by the county said: “Alex Hales has made himself unavailable for selection for personal reasons and no timetable has been set for his return to action.”

According to The Sun, the 30-year-old should be fine for the three-day training camp in Wales.
