The Last…

Bat you bought/used?

Going back a bit, a Gray-Nicolls Powerbow I bought at 13. I’m sponsored by Jedi now.

Song you listened to?

Forever by Drake, Eminem & Kanye West.

Century?

For Studley Royal in York Cricket League in 2015. 118 off 65 balls – I’m not one for hanging around!

Five-wicket haul?

I took 6-81 against Notts in the opening round of this season’s County Championship.

Injury?

I picked up a hip injury in pre-season when we were away in South Africa. We couldn’t really put our finger on it at the time, but it only kept me out for a few weeks.

Trophy?

When we beat We won the Yorkshire Premier title with Harrogate in 2016. I have very fond memories of that and played a big role in my last full season of league cricket.

The Jury’s Out

Tea or coffee?

Can I say neither? I’ve got a little thing going on with our dressing-room attendant, he makes sure there’s a Diet Coke waiting for me there.

Last meal if you were on death row?

Mum’s Sunday roast. Nothing like it – roast chicken, burnt potatoes, perfect.

50 over, T20 or County Championship?

The highest calibre is the Championship, that has the prestige. But Twenty20 is fun, there’s a great excitement around the games, so I’d probably say that.

Caribbean with the missus or Magaluf with the lads?

Magaluf, mainly because my missus won’t be reading The Cricket Paper!

Time added on…

Who did you support as a boy?

I’ve always supported Yorkshire at cricket and watched them at Headingley. Football-wise, I’m a big Newcastle fan with my mum being from there.

Best coach you have ever played with?

Steve Oldham was a big influence for me coming through the Yorkshire age-groups, from 15 to 18. He’s quite a tough taskmaster, but that’s exactly what I needed. At a senior level Jason Gillespie – he gave us a lot of freedom.

Who’s the most nervous when next into bat?

Definitely my mum. She can’t even come to games, she gets that nervous! She was fine at lower levels when you could walk around the boundary, but now she can’t handle it and blames herself if I do badly.

Person to avoid after being dismissed?

Gary Ballance. You will hear a lot of shouting and know not to stay in the room.

Which TV pundit do you really listen to and which make you cringe?

Bumble for the sheer comedy value. I tend to avoid Bob Willis. They’ve brought back that Debate programme on Sky, you won’t catch me watching that.

One rule change?

The ‘pitching outside the line’ rule for LBW’s. If it’s going on to hit the stumps it should still be out.

Superstitions?

Little things in the dressing room and out on the pitch, but I’d rather keep them to myself!

Hobbies?

I’m a keen golfer. The lads think I’m all right, I can get my handicap down to ten if I play enough. The club have got a deal with Wike, just outside Leeds, and Ripon is my local course.

And finally

Who is the worst dressed in the team?

Jack Brooks. We’ve all seen the photos.
