While he didn’t know it at the time, rising star Michael Jones’ mammoth century against Durham for Scotland’s second string would prove to be a career-defining innings.
The 20-year-old finished unbeaten on 173 not out as he equalled the second highest individual score in a Scotland non-cap game during a three-day clash at Chester-le-Street in April last year.
His marathon effort lasted more than five hours and, concerned about his lack of opportunities in the Lancashire Academy, saw him secure a move to Durham on trial.
