SOMERSET bowler Cassie Coombes has accused the ECB of turning players away ahead of next season’s county restructure, which could leave as many as 250 female cricketers stranded. Although plans are yet to be finalised, from next season women’s county cricket will be cut from 34 teams to possibly as few as eight in a bid to professionalise the game. Currently, the women’s county circuit is all amateur and Coombes has highlighted problems at Somerset such as a lack of kit and late reimbursement payments.
