Reaction to the news that England’s Ashes tour might be under threat from players ruling themselves out of selection if their wives or partners and families were not allowed to join them was mixed.
But what was most striking was that from Tunbridge Wells there has been no disgust whatsoever.
Time was when such a suggestion would provoke responses ranging from fury and rage through incredulity and amazement to scorn and derision, all of which would have been neatly encapsulated in a letter from that town in Kent where colonels retired to wondering what the world was coming to.
Not this time...
