Joe Root reckons that, despite his England’s side abject display against New Zealand at Edgbaston, this is not the time to start panicking.
Publicly, at least, his argument for not doing so is that the young batsmen he finds himself stuck with will come good and, bolstered by the return of the likes of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes (remind me again why they were missing in the first place) and maybe, just maybe, the selection of a specialist spinner, they will then be able to compete against India in the second half of the Test summer and go on to hold their own...
