I’m a Leicester lover, it’s my home town and the place where I played for the first eight years of my career. Leicestershire were a formidable team in the late 1990s – county champions in 1996 and 1998, and regular contenders. We had a lot of big characters in the team back then. Phil Simmons, for instance. What a man he was – and still is! In my first season at Leicestershire he said to me, “Stevo, you’re with me.” And I ended up rooming with Phil Simmons on away trips.
