Last Saturday at Edgbaston I was flicking from one 50-over game to another, the match going on in front of me and the one on the telly. South East Stars, for whom I am assistant coach, had to beat Central Sparks to make it through to the ‘eliminator’ semi-final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Meanwhile, up at Nottingham, my old club Leicestershire were trying to land their first 50-over since 1985 against Hampshire in the One-Day Cup final.
Thankfully the Stars dominated at Birmingham, eventually winning by 152 runs. That allowed me to keep an eye on events at Trent Brid...
