For women’s domestic cricket this will be the last summer under the current structure, following the ECB’s decision to allocate the regional teams to eight first-class counties as part of a three-tiered model beginning next year. I’ve been working as assistant coach for the South East Stars for the past two seasons, and in that time the improvement I’ve seen in the women’s cricket has been huge. The new structure should see standards soar over the next five years or so.
