If Australia had been able to catch during England’s first innings at The Oval then Pat Cummins would have been able to fulfil what captains of all stripes hope for, rain or shine, and that is lead from the front. As it was, Cummins finished with 1-66 after two catches were dropped off him, leaving England’s dismissal for 283 to others and other aspects of his skillset as leader.
