At the end of the first day at the Old Trafford Test, reserve umpire Martin Saggers quietly called over Stuart Broad, plunged his hand deep into his pocket and handed him the ball with which he had taken his 600th Test wicket.
As an old bowler, the official knew the veteran fast-medium would want a memento of a very special achievement.
It might end up in the same display case as the England cap Broad received from Ian Botham on his debut in Colombo 16 years ago.
