Yes, Graham Gooch bullied bucketfuls of runs for the cocksure, colourful side that dominated domestic cricket for 15 years from 1979. Meanwhile, John Lever led the pace attack, Ken McEwan cut a dash in the middle order and Ray East spun out a few amidst his tomfoolery. All under the watchful gaze of The Chelmsford Gandalf, Keith Fletcher.
But Turner, unheralded and never near an England call, so often turned games with his whippy medium pace and ability to wag the tail from No.8.
