Readers of a certain vintage will remember the old Charters and Caldicott propaganda films of the early Forties, which involved two cricket-mad old buffers from Blighty travelling around on trains through Germany teaching Johnny Foreigner the virtues of being British.
Some villainous looking character in jackboots would demand to see their papers, followed by his monocle dropping out in astonishment when Charters (or was it Caldicott?) says: “I say old chap. Would you happen to know the Test score from Lord’s?”
