I SAW quite an alarming stat following England’s defeat in Adelaide. It read that Jonny Bairstow has been at the crease for 73.4 overs in this series. He has spent 42 of them – more than half – batting with a bowler.
It’s to be expected batting down the order, but England should really look at bumping Jonny up. I’ve said in a previous column how I think there would be no issue with Bairstow batting at three or five while keeping, though if England wanted to free him up from the gloves they could always bring Ben Foakes in.
