I thought Jimmy Anderson was joking but as it turned out he could not have been more serious.
We were chatting in the pavilion at Aigburth during an early season Lancashire match a decade and more ago, in order to come up with one of the first of many columns I assisted him writing for The Mail on Sunday.
As he departed I said I’d see him next week at Lord’s, the venue for the first Test of that summer.
“If I’m picked,” he replied.
He said much the same again this week during the build-up to the occasion of him winning ...
