STUART Broad has called on the ICC to scrap the soft signal on contentious catches after he was controversially denied a wicket on the second day of England’s second Test against New Zealand.
Broad was convinced he had Devon Conway caught when the opener was on 22 at Edgbaston.
Yet the on-field umpires weren’t sure if the ball had carried to Zak Crawley at third slip and went upstairs. Having given a soft signal of not out, third umpire Michael Gough had to find conclusive evidence the catch was clean. He didn’t and Conway survived to go on and make 80.
