For many the timing of the Royal London Cup couldn’t have seemed worse – an old school 50-over competition running beneath The Hundred, the ECB’s shiny new toy. But for a number of forgotten squad members and young turks the timing was perfect, providing them with a chance not only to shine but to do so just before contracts are renewed.
