World Cup offers welcome break from franchise diet

With the ICC holding global tournaments every year for the foreseeable future, it doesn’t leave long for the anticipation to build between events. Throw in the fact that since the SA20 in January it’s been a constant diet of T20, with the IPL only finishing this weekend after a two-month stretch, and fans could be forgiven for wanting a bit of variety.
For that reason, I can understand there being a sense of overkill as we head into the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, only 16 months after Jos Buttler lifted the trophy at the MCG.
