Richard Clarke on the incomparable Derek Shackleton, who would have turned 100 this week

During the recent series against the West Indies, there was talk of Mark Wood becoming the first bowler to break the 100 mile-per-hour barrier in Test cricket.
On the second morning at Trent Bridge, he reached 97.1mph. Just below his fastest, 97.73mph to David Warner in 2021. It is a click or two behind the Test record, Mitchell Starc’s 99.66mph against New Zealand in 2015 and the all-format best, Shoaib Akhtar’s 100.2mph in 2003.
