After Moeen Ali announced his international retirement last week, I looked up how many times I came up against him in county cricket.
After all, our careers overlapped for nearly two decades. But… only 11 times! And that’s counting a second XI match. There were six Championship meetings, four 50-over games, and not a single T20.
Of course, Mo has been in England’s camp for most of the last decade, and the regional structure of white-ball cricket means that Kent and Worcestershire haven’t seen much of each other since the turn of the century. But 11 times…?
