A DAMP SQUIB, BUT END OF REGIONAL ERA FEELS PREMATURE

It was a funny old way to bring down the curtain on women’s regional cricket. Saturday at Grace Road, South East Stars against Sunrisers in the 50over final, an empty ground, and rain lashing down as hard as I’ve ever seen it (and that includes the monsoons I witnessed with Texas Rangers in Miami last year). It was just after lunch, the floodlights were on, and it was dark as night.
Sadly for my Stars girls, who I’ve been coaching for more than two years now, that was the game gone, with Sunrisers well ahead on DLS by the time the clouds burst.
