The ECB has announced Ian Lovatt as its newly-elected president following a vote by 41 members.
The role will see the former Middlesex chairman act as an ambassador for the ECB and a promoter of the organisations aims from the top level of cricket down to the grassroots.
Lovett spent nine years as the chair of Middlesex’s board and witnessed the county win two County Championship titles (Division One 2016, Division Two 2011) and the T20 Blast (2008).
He had served as deputy chairman of the ECB up until May of this year but will now assume the position of president, a non-executive role.
Speaking of his appointment, Lovett said: “I am hugely excited to be taking on this new role. I am passionate about our aims to grow the game and to do that we need to work collaboratively with everyone involved in the sport at all levels, particularly the army of volunteers upon whom we are so reliant. I will do all that I can to help with that.”
With a background in banking and finance, ECB chairman Colin Graves said Lovett had been an invaluable member of the ECB board over the past nine years.
“Ian is a fantastic choice and we welcome him in to the role of president,” Graves commented. “He has a long-held love of the game and a deep knowledge of the value it brings to people, through being a player and volunteer at his local club and high-profile roles he has held at both Middlesex and ECB.
“Ian has also been a driving force in the governance changes that lead to greater diversity and better decision-making in the governing body.”
The election of an ECB president allows any of its 41 stakeholders to suggest a candidate to the Nominations Committee, who in turn org
