Nottinghamshire fast bowler Harry Gurney will be heading Down Under this winter to play in the Big Bash League after signing with the Melbourne Renegades.

Gurney’s stock as a prolific wicket-taker in T20 competition has rocketed over the past two years having become the only player to take 20 wickets in the T20 Blast in 2017 and 2018.

A feat which has paved the way for the 32-year-old to sign a first BBL contract where he will link up with the Renegades alongside Outlaws teammate Dan Christian.

The left-armer is available for the franchise’s first seven matches in the competition, and Gurney revealed he was relishing the chance to appear in one of world cricket’s foremost tournaments.

“I’m really excited to show my skills in the Big Bash and I can’t wait to get going with the Melbourne Renegades,” Gurney told Nottinghamshire’s official website.

“The Big Bash is one of the best leagues in the world, featuring some of the best players and always played in-front of big crowds. I’m looking forward to testing myself in those conditions.”

Gurney joins a growing English contingent heading to Australia this winter with Joe Root, Jos Buttler, David Willey and Tymal Mills booked for stints in the eight-team tournament.

Each team is limited to signing no more than two overseas players and the first match of 2018’s installment sees Brisbane Heat take on Adelaide Strikers on December 19.
