Sussex bowler Jofra Archer has courted controversy overseas in the Big Bash League after umpires removed him from the attack following two full tosses.

The Hobart Hurricanes import was warned by the umpires in his first over after bowling an above waist-height delivery at Perth Scorchers batsman Sam Whiteman.

Before he followed up with a ball in his second over which was a wayward full toss that sailed over Whiteman’s head.

Under cricket rules, the umpires agreed to withdraw Archer from the ‘Canes bowling attack after he had bowled a total of ten deliveries, conceding 19 runs.

This is Archer’s second season playing in the Australian T20 tournament after starring for the Hurricanes in 2018.

So far in this year’s competition the Sussex Shark has claimed nine wickets in eight matches.

The 23-year-old will be monitored closely by members of England’s staff after the ECB relaxed selection criteria.

Previously, overseas players had to have played in England’s domestic game for five years before becoming eligible for the national team. But changes introduced at the turn of the year means Archer can be eligible for this year’s World Cup having played for Sussex for over three years.
