Middlesex seamer Ethan Bamber has joined Gloucestershire County Cricket Club on a month-long loan spell.
Bamber, 20, has only featured in three County Championship matches this season for Middlesex taking three wickets.
It follows a far more impressive 2018 in which Bamber took 28 wickets in just six County Championship matches. Tim Murtagh and James Harris ended 2018 as the only Middlesex bowlers to finish with a higher wicket tally than the 20-year-old.
Within 24 hours of a loan deal being agreed Bamber is already in action for Gloucestershire as they host Leicestershire in a battle of the bottom two sides in Division Two.
Gloucestershire’s Head Coach, Richard Dawson, expressed his delight to see Bamber join the county on loan.
“We are delighted to have Ethan in the squad, He played against us last week so we already know how we can potentially utilise him.”
The youngster’s talent is emphasised by his role in the England squad for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. Bamber ended the tournament as England’s joint leading wicket-taker.
Managing Director of Cricket for Middlesex Angus Fraser highlighted the importance of allowing talented youngsters the opportunity to try and get first-team experience.
“Middlesex want our young cricketers to get as much first team experience as possible, so when Gloucestershire approached us about the possibility of Ethan playing for them it was a pretty simple decision.
“Gloucestershire have a number of injuries to their bowlers and a hectic schedule in and around the Cheltenham Festival and the experience will only do Ethan good.”
