Yorkshire batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore has said he is pleased to have been chosen to captain the county for the start of the T20 Blast.
The rare opportunity to captain the White Rose came after regular captain Steve Patterson opted for a period of rest.
Patterson’s choice led to Kohler-Cadmore being given the leadership role for the early stages of their T20 Blast campaign.
Kohler-Cadmore, 24, said the opportunity to captain was a confidence booster.
“It’s a great honour to be asked to do it, and it’s nice to have the backing,” he said. “It gives you such confidence going out there.
“I’m not sure if it had anything to do with it, but I got told on Friday and went out on Saturday and scored runs.”
Indeed, Kohler-Cadmore recorded his first hundred of the season that day in an impressive innings-victory over Somerset.
The 24-year-old also suggested that he would use his role as captain as an opportunity to be innovative as Yorkshire aim to improve their T20 results.
“It’s going to be slightly different from previous years,” Kohler-Cadmore said.
“We haven’t got out of the group stages in the last couple, and that’s something we’ve identified.
“We’ve got a few little tweaks here and there. Being more aggressive in the field and with the ball is a big thing, taking it to them. We want to take wickets and stunning catches and be the aggressors.
“In white ball cricket, if you think out of the box sometimes, it can make a difference to a game. I’m excited to do things slightly differently to the norm. Hopefully it pays off in our favour.”
Yorkshire play their first T20 Blast game on July 19 as they host Nottinghamshire.
