The schedule for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier has been unveiled, after the confirmation of the participation of 10 teams in the tournament. The event will be held in Zimbabwe from 18th June to 9th July 2023.
Every match in the tournament carries a lot of significance not only for sport bet, as teams will be vying for two coveted spots at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. These two berths will grant the qualifying teams the opportunity to play in the prestigious ODI global tournament, where they will have a guaranteed nine matches.
The 10 participating teams in the qualifier have been divided into two groups of five teams each. Group A consists of the host nation Zimbabwe, along with the West Indies, the Netherlands, Nepal, and the United States. Group B comprises Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.
Each team will face all the other teams in their respective group once during the initial group stage. The top three teams from each group will then advance to the Super Six stage. In the Super Six stage, they will compete against the teams they didn’t face in the group stage.
The points earned by each team in the group stage will be carried forward to the Super Six stage, except for the points obtained against the teams that fail to qualify for the Super Six stage. The two finalists from the Super Six stage will secure their spots in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
The matches in Bulawayo and Harare will be split between Queen’s Sports Club, Bulawayo Athletic Club, Harare Sports Club, and Takashinga Cricket Club. These venues will collectively host 34 matches, with the final taking place at Harare Sports Club on 9th July. Additionally, warm-up fixtures will be held at Old Hararians Cricket Club.
The tournament will kick off at Harare Sports Club, where the host nation Zimbabwe will compete against Nepal on the opening matchday. Nepal will be aiming to secure their first-ever qualification for the Men’s Cricket World Cup so it is the best time to get your Betway bet slips ready. On the same day, the two-time Men’s Cricket World Cup champions, West Indies, will take on their neighbors, the USA, at Takashinga Cricket Club.
Group B matches will commence on 19th June in Bulawayo. At Queen’s Sports Club, the 1996 World Cup champions, Sri Lanka, will face the UAE, while at Bulawayo Athletic Club, Ireland will square off against Oman.
On 20th June, the Netherlands will begin their campaign by playing against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. The following day, Scotland will face their rivals Ireland at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The Super Six stage is set to commence on 29th June, while the bottom two teams from each group will compete in the Playoff stage.
A noteworthy addition to this tournament is the introduction of the Decision Review System (DRS), which will be utilized in all matches from the Super Six stage onwards. For cricket betting fans, all matches will be available for betting on the Betway betting site.
The Qualifier serves as the culmination of four years of fiercely contested competition. It brings together the bottom five teams from the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, along with three automatic qualifiers from the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Additionally, two teams have gained entry to the Qualifier through the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off.
