After India’s heroic test win in Australia and England defeated Sri Lanka, the stage was set for arguably the two best test teams to face off in the first test match between the two sides. Last week we saw a superb test match between India and England and it was the visitors who came out on top.
England dominated from start to finish and it was captain Joe Root who rediscovered his form to once again score a big total to give England a big win. Root scored 218 runs in England’s first innings total and was supported by Dom Sibley with 86 as England scored 578 runs.
Joe Root was outstanding in Sri Lanka with some big innings with the bat and he scored 19 boundaries in his double century which left England in a commanding position after the second day of the test match.
India made a good fist of getting close to England’s total, but only managed 337 with in form Rishabh Pant scoring 91 runs which included 9 boundaries and 5 sixes. Pant was one of the most important players for Indian in their test win over Australia scoring some big innings with the bat and showing great maturity in his batting. He will definitely be one to watch in the upcoming 2nd test for India against England.
The second innings saw England hit 178 all out leaving India with a 300+ total to win the test match. Root top scored with 40, but although England already had a commanding lead, India would have taken comfort that they could bowl England out for a manageable total.
As India chased down an unlikely win it was Jack Leach with 4 wickets for 76 runs who caused most of the damage, but veteran James Anderson helped out with 3 wickets for 17 which delivered the all-important final wicket to give England a huge start in this test series and a well-deserved victory.
The 2nd test match this week between India and England is tightly poised in the betting at sportsbetting.ag with India favourites to level the series at 4/6 (1.67) -1.67. Rishabh Pant will be looking to continue his excellent form with the bat and the bowling team will be looking to start positively and not let Joe Root put up a big score.
The draw with sportsbetting.ag is priced at 3/1 (4.0) +300 and with the type of pitch expected to be played on, it’s likely we will see a result. England are also priced 3/1 (4.0) +300 to record back to back wins over India and would give them an excellent chance of winning the test series.
Once again Joe Root will be the main player expected to lead from the front for England and the value on England in the betting is one worth considering given that Dom Sibley is also in form and if Root doesn’t hit another big score Sibley could be the main to once again deliver with the bat.
In the bowling for England, they will pose another threat to India with Jack Leach hitting good form and bowling well and with James Anderson causing problems for the Indian batsman, the 3/1 (4.0) + 300 on England to win the 2nd test is definitely one worth considering at sportsbetting.ag
The top batsman market is dominated by Root as he is the 11/8 (2.38) +138 favourite to be top batsman for England in their first innings and with the way he is playing, there is no stopping root, thus he is so short in the market. It will take a lot of stopping Root at the minute as he is scoring big and by for the most in form player in the England line up.
For India it is surprising that Virat Kohli is the 2/1 (3.0) +200 is the favourite in the betting to be the top india batsman in the first innings as the hero from Australia and top batsman for India in their first innings in the first test versus England Rishabh Pant can be baked at 7/1 (8.0) +700. This is a huge value and a bet we like a lot. Check out all the latest odds at sportsbetting.ag for all the test match odds.
