AS The Hundred draws ever closer and cricket aims for a new futuristic template, it is rather apt that the team of W.G. Grace is hogging headlines in the County Championship.
Quite what Grace, the patriarch of English cricket and a 19th century icon, would make of the new format that’s designed to attract a new audience of people who have never watched cricket and can’t get their head around the term ‘wickets’, is anyone’s guess.
But he might well be as puzzled as seasoned fans currently are at seeing Gloucestershire as the best first-class team in the country.
