Lashings unveil new captaincy duo

THE former England and Lancashire spinner Chris Schofield will be the captain of the Lashings All-Stars for the 2016 season, with Surrey legend Martin Bicknell his vice-captain.

The 37-year-old from Rochdale has been a key member of the Lashings team for a number of years and succeeds Phil DeFreitas, who remains a valued part of the squad.

Team manager David Smith said: “We are delighted to confirm that we have appointed Chris and Martin.  It goes without saying that we wish to thank Daffy for his loyal service over the years and look forward to still having him around in a playing capacity.”

Schofield, a rare English leg spinner, played two test matches and four T20 internationals. He claimed 237 first-class wickets in a career that also saw him play for Surrey. For Lashings he has occasionally opened the batting and his lower order blitzes have regularly bailed the top order out of trouble.

Bicknell, 47, also has several years of experience with Lashings under his belt and he moves into the new role of vice-captain. Bicknell took 429 career wickets and played four tests for England. Both men are brand ambassadors for Lashings.
