JOE ROOT shouldered the blame for a remarkable final-day defeat that saw England throw away the opportunity to take a 1-0 series lead against India at Lord’s.
England’s captain was left crestfallen after his side were routed for 120 in their second innings after failing to bat out 60 overs to salvage a draw in this second Test.
It came after a rollercoaster final morning that started with Root’s men as overwhelming favourites for victory until an 89-run ninth-wicket stand between Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
