MOHAMMED Shami took five wickets as India beat Australia by five wickets in the first ODI at Mohali on Friday.
The fast bowler helped India bowl Australia out for 276 after 50 overs, with figures of 5-51 the best of his ODI career so far.
In the chase Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav all hit half-centuries as India crossed over the line with eight balls left to go 1-0 up in the three-match series.
The victory also took India to the top of the ICC’s ODI rankings; they are now the No.1-ranked side in every format.
