Hampshire thrash Surrey, Essex close gap

AS THE County Championship takes a break for the best part of a month to allow for the start of the T20 Blast, the Division One table doesn’t look far off from how most judges expect it to be come September.
Rain has played a part, albeit not as much as in Division Two, with 17 matches out of 35 ending in positive results, the other 18 being a combination of hard-fought, inevitable, and rain-affected draws.
After seven rounds, Surrey are top, Essex are second, Somerset are third, and Hampshire, as ever, are also in the mix. The only real outlier, if 2023’s final standing...
