INTERVIEW: England great Jack Russell on cricket and life

The finest gloveman of his generation, and one of the game’s great characters, reflects on his career with England and Gloucestershire.

Where it all started
JR: Alan Knott caught Rick McCosker in 1977, diving to his right, one-handed, and that’s when I decided I was going to play for England. That was the moment: McCosker, caught Knott, bowled Greig.
I was captain of my school team but I never kept because Pedro Jones was keeper and he was the hard nut at school so nobody was going to argue with him.
